About Florida VOAD

FL VOAD is a state member of the National VOAD and employs the principles of the “4C’s” established by the National VOAD:

  • Cooperation
  • Communication
  • Coordination
  • Collaboration
These principles serve as the foundation for Florida VOAD to work in partnership with local, regional and national partners to coordinate disaster relief, response, recovery, and mitigation.

FL VOAD provides opportunities among its members and partners to share knowledge, exchange information, network and develop relationships. Understanding the capacity each organization brings to disaster work provides a framework for organizations to coordinate appropriate assistance to survivors and disaster-impacted communities.
Membership is open to any non-profit organization that has disaster preparation, response and/or recovery as part of its core mission in the state of Florida. FL VOAD also welcomes local COADs (Community Organizations Active in Disaster), VOADS and long-term recovery groups as associate members. Other organizations and governmental agencies with an interest in disaster work are welcomed as partners. All are encouraged to participate and help improve the collective, collaborative and coordinated work of FL VOAD.
FL VOAD is not operational but serves as a coordinating body of member organizations. Each organization maintains its independence and autonomy yet works closely with other agencies to improve service and eliminate duplication. Members have learned the benefit of working together to have maximum impact.
FL VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) is fortunate to have a community of member organizations with a wealth of experience and expertise in disaster work and a passion to serve disaster-impacted communities with compassion and excellence. These qualities provide a strong base for the collective work of its members.
